TV Times…

Wow, I haven’t done a post in a while… life happens but here I am making a new post for you to read…

Who remembers TV back before all the reality shows took over? Remember sitting down and watching a tv show that had a story which featured your favourite TV characters? I do.

I have many streaming services and I binge watch a lot of TV shows I remember watching from when I was younger from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and shows that were before my time from the 60’s.

I love escaping into a TV show and being invested with my favourite TV characters from my favourite shows and getting involved with watching them.

A lot of the characters become like family or a friend in the shows I watch as I care for them and take me into their world of TV Show Land.

Even when a character dies, I feel like I’ve lost a family member or a friend.

I don’t enjoy “reality” shows as they have nothing to do with reality as it’s all fake. They are obviously scripted and the people who appear on these shows, they are compartmentalised into stereotypical parts because there’s always the bitch/ass hole, the complainer, the backstabber, the person of colour, someone who is in the lgbtqi community, the crier, etc, depending on what is needed to help make the show more interesting for ratings purposes. Filled with people wanting their 5 minutes of fame.

Reality TV is also cheaper to make than a drama or a comedy series that goes for a half an hour or an hour.

For me, “reality” TV is also too predictable as you can guess what is going to happen before it actually happens as it is all scripted.

Am I the only one who misses good TV shows? You know, like Mission Impossible, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, The Love Boat, Cagney and Lacey, The Rockford Files, Emergency!, CHiP’s, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, ER for example.

I enjoy Law and Order SVU, Chicago Police, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire, Blue Bloods, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Hawaii 5-0 in recent TV show viewing, just to name a few.

I just hope that reality TV doesn’t completely take over and that is all that appears on our TV screens in the future.

I know there are streaming platforms to watch shows that interest me available but I cancelled all the subscription ones as they were costing me a fortune and jacking up their prices, so I only kept the ones that are free, they offer enough of what I’m interested in watching, when I want to watch. I know there are shows I will miss out on watching by not having the paid streaming platforms but that’s okay, the free one’s have enough content to keep me entertained.

Whether you enjoy all the reality shows or not, happy viewing.

Until next time,

Kaye

Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours….

On Thursday night, 28 July 2022, Australian TV show, Neighbours had its final episode air on TV after 37 years.

873,000 people in Australia tuned in for the last time to watch the final episode.

Over the 37 years and 8,903 episodes of Neighbours, Ramsay Street has seen
180,000 scenes being filmed (I have no idea how many scenes would have been dropped on the cutting room floor or were bloopers)
100+ kidnapping/hostage situations
35 natural disasters
115 car crashes (or accidents)
64 deaths
39 weddings
17 births

Tonight, Monday at 6.30pm, I think it’s going to really sink in for many of us who are still in denial that Neighbours has ended after being on our TV screens for 37 years, when we turn on the TV out of habit to watch the show, only to remember with sadness that the show has truly ended.

I love how they brought back as many of the past cast as they could and the little “Easter eggs” they put in as well into the final episode.

I enjoyed seeing Kylie and Jason back again as the shows “super couple” Scott and Charlene and how their presence didn’t take anything away from the current cast.

Susan’s monologue at the end, had me in tears as she walked around the street looking at everyone gathered there for Toadie and Melanie’s wedding reception and she was looking at everyone during her monologue, tying it all in perfectly together.

I think the way they left things open was well done because it gave me the feeling that life will go on in Ramsay Street, regardless of the show ending.

I was celebrating my 14th birthday on the night Neighbours began on the 18 March 1985 and now I am 51, feeling as though I have lost a good friend as the show has been on a good part of my life. I will definitely miss the show and the life of the residents of Ramsay Street. I was there watching the debut of Neighbours.

I remember visiting Melbourne years ago and standing in “Ramsay Street” on a spur of the moment day trip one day, with a friend. That is a happy memory for me, standing there on Pin Oak Court, South Vermont, Victoria, Australia aka Ramsay Street.

I was gutted when I thought the Ramsay Street history book was destroyed and cheered when the young people made a new book along with a Ramsay Street Facebook page (Who actually got onto Facebook to see if the Facebook page really existed? I didn’t) Now, can we persuade someone to actually publish a real Neighbours history book? That would be amazing if it could happen. So many people have been a part of the show, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. I for one would definitely buy it and I know I wouldn’t be the only one.

Thank you to the Neighbours cast and crew who over the last 37 years made magic happen in making an unique TV show and giving we viewers an escape for 30 minutes in our lives to enter your world. I’m going to miss catching up with the Neighbours and having a “cuppa” with them all while catching up with the everything going on in Erinsborough.

Okay, you didn’t think that I wouldn’t finish this post off without a Neighbours theme tune sing along did you? Here’s the words, happy singing…

Until next time

The Love Boat…

One of my favourite TV shows growing up was The Love Boat. I would sit in front of the TV each week just to see who the guest stars would be and what the crew of The Pacific Princess would be up to that week.

It was pure escapism and it captured the minds and imaginations of not just me but also most people who watched the show.

The Love Boat was the show TV stars wanted to appear in, as it was extremely popular in a prime time viewing timeslot.

The Love Boat was also the show that got people curious about cruising and got people going on cruises.

On my last cruise back in 2019, from Adelaide, Australia to Fiji and return, there was a The Love Boat themed deck party, which was repeated as a Sail Away party, which was fun. Then when the cast of The Love Boat received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Princess Cruises had placed replica’s of the plaque to be placed on their ships in the Piazza.

Now my happiness has increased because one of the TV stations here in Australia is playing episodes of The Love Boat and they have it on their website for streaming. Yep, I’m binge watching.

I’m really enjoying watching the show again as I’ve only seen random episodes on YouTube or Dailymotion as it hasn’t played on TV here since the original run.

Finding The Love Boat is the perfect escapism TV for me in these times of living in a pandemic. I can escape with the passengers and crew on board the Pacific Princess and forget about the world for an hour or several hours, depending on how many episodes I can watch.

Yes, I also sing along with the theme tune as it plays…

Until next time

If you could live in TV Land…

If you could live in TV Land, aka your favourite TV show, which one would it be?

For me, I’d live in Coronation Street as I love the cobbles on the street and the feel of the whole street.

Who wouldn’t love to live on a street with your favourite local pub on the corner where you can catch up with mates?

Then you could sleep for as late as possible before getting out of bed and getting ready for work before leaving your house on Coronation Street and be at work in a couple of minutes as you walk to work and not have to drive in peak hour traffic as you travel to and from work.

There’s the friendships on the show between the characters and the fun and humour of the characters.

If you’re hungry, there’s the chippy or the kebab shop. If you want to buy some groceries quickly as you’re halfway through cooking a meal and realise that you have run out of something, it’s just a matter of nipping out to the corner shop and buying what you needed, including a bottle of wine to accompany the meal before quickly going home again to tend to the cooking.

Mind you, everyone would know your business as there would be no secrets on the street and to live so close to work, would have a few setbacks because imagine it, you couldn’t have a sick day and go out for a day of shopping, now could you? Someone from work would see you, right? Lol.

That’s the show I’d love to live in if I could. What about you? What show would you love to live in?

Until next time
